My birthdate is the same as Simon Cowell's. What's your bloody excuse, eh?
Just another WordPress weblog

Well, that was a pretty decent show. Everyone in this batch can at least sing a tune. On to the show :
Mimie -
I didn’t quite catch the song title (can someone tell me?). Mimie started off this week’s show rather nicely. Her voice was good, but I wished she hadn’t frowned so much while singing. I couldn’t fault Roslan and Paul for telling her she looked like a prim school teacher. Nice effort. A 6 and a half.
Keith - Stand By Me (Ben E King)
People on the message boards have been raving about this guy. I didn’t see what all the fuss is about. He kinda looked like Jien’s twin brother for a moment there. His voice was surprisingly good, better than certain a certain overhyped person from the first batch (you know who I’m talking about). He made the song his own but he lose points because of his excessive jovialness on stage. (Reminds me too much of Matt Rogers during his ‘Amazing’ performance). Good job, Keith. A 6 and a half.
Hana - Mencintaimu (Kris Dayanti)
Oh boy. I think this is the absolutely the worst song choice so far. From the auditions, we know that Hana’s got a decent voice. But man, I think she blew it big time with her performance tonight. I don’t know what the judges were listening to, but she was too all over the place, and I think she totally butchered the melody. Sorry Hana, definitely a bad song choice and definitely not your best performance. A 4 and a half.
Yin - Broken Vow (Lara Fabian)

Surprise, Surprise. We don’t need a reprise. We’ve already heard Andrew sing this song last week. Makes me wonder if the song list given to these contestants are really that short. Anyway, Yin had a really pleasant voice, much to my delight. She had no pitching problems at all and delivered the song beautifully. You don’t think so? Try closing your eyes and just listen to her again this Sunday. Her downfall? Not commercial enough. But she can sing, hell yeah. A 7 and a half.
Eddie - Kasih Berubah (Flybaits)
Again, with the song selection. Can we get a wider song selection from now on, Fremantle/8tv/ThePowersThatBe please? Urghh.. Eddie has a decent voice, but this was not exactly the best song selection. (At least he didn’t totally wreck the song) Too bad, so sad. He’s not going to advance but at least something good came out of this thing for him. He lost his mullet. I give his performance a 5.

Farah - I’ll Never Love This Way Again (Dionne Warwick)
She’s pretty! And her voice was a pleasant surprise too. Her voice is not outrageously good but I like her performance and I like her overall package. A 7.
Jac - Superwoman (Karyn White)
Oh boy. Oh man. Can we just give her the title right now and save the others from embarassment? What can I say.
She’s been hyped, but so rightly deserved. She proved it with her brilliant performance tonight. People are complaining that she sounds too much like Fantasia and she has an unfair advantage of already having her own CD out. Well, first of all, if you really listen instead of making physical comparisons, she sounds nothing like Fantasia. It’s like comparing Macy Gray to Lauryn Hill. Two completely different talented singers with their own style IMHO. Second of all, the album that she put together was not from a proper recording studio. She put the album out of her own pocket. I mean, if you’re good enough and you want it bad enough, you’ll stop at nothing. I am blown away by her talent and determination. I hope she goes all the way. If she doesn’t make it to the next round, then we probably know the real reason why, now won’t we? A 9 and a half.
Fahmy - Januari (Glenn Fredly)
Anak Mami looks good without his glasses! Hehe. I think his rendition of Glenn’s song was really good. He squeaked a little in one part but I’m ready to overlook that bit. But there’s something about him that’s lacking and I just can’t put my finger to it. I don’t think he’s Malaysian Idol material, but I think he would be a better Akademi Fantasia contestant (he’ll probably give Zahid a good run for his money) - that’s not a deragative comments to AF though. I feel the two are unique in their own way and some are better suited for the other show (ie. Syima - bad AF contestant, good MI contestant, with Fahmy, it’s the other way round). Good job anyway kiddo. A 7.
Karen - Falling (Alicia Keys)
You’re falling alright. I never liked Karen, she looks kinda fake to me and she tries to overdo every single thing while the cameras are on her. Her rendition of this song was nothing to write home about.. or in my blog for that matter. A
5 and a half.
Zehra - I Will Always Love You (Whitney Houston)
Another pleasant surprise. I didn’t think anyone could pull this one off, but she did. Bravo! She could improve on her dictions, but she’s got a good voice range. The long note she held almost impressed me as much as Diana’s Broken Wing, and I gotta give credit where credit is due. Nice one. A 7 and a half.
Saiful - Mimpi Laila (Yassin)

Saiful’s got a decent voice but I didn’t think he lived up to the hype. It was just alright for me. I’m not complaining about his performace. I do, however, have to complain about the judges. Am I the only one who noticed that from the ay he constantly ‘backs them up’, Paul has quite a penchant for pretty little boys (remember the horrid tone deaf kid from the auditions)? And Roslan is so pleased with himself when he gets the chance to taunt and tease these little twinks (which is what a person in denial would typically do, just FYI Mr Roslan). Bitches please, just get it out of your systems already. Judge them on their vocal capabilities, not personalities. Merci, au revoir. Oh and I give Saiful’s performance a 6 and a half.
So.. my top three choices and votes will go to :
Jac, Yin, Zehra
Malaysia’s Pick will probably be :
Jac, Keith, Karen
Izad - Out
Charla always gets the good lines. Last week it was “I got electrocuted” and this week, it’s “My ass is too big!”. LOL I couldn’t believe that they actually went to St Petersburg, Russia. Damn, those spoilers have been working overtime, haven’t they?
Overall, I think this was a really lame episode. The flight connections got too damn confusing. But I can’t help but smile to see Charla and Mirna catching up with Team Pizzathetic in the connecting flight. Their expressions were just simply precious. (I think they were also alarmed that Charla was doing quite well gorging the caviar at the pitstop)

I hope none of you missed the quick shot of nuns going down the escalator (with some appropriate angelic sounds in the background) at the Buenos Aires airport before the camera zoomed in on Brandon and Nicole (who were obviously not as angelic as they think). I was practically LMAO at that scene. In terms of editing, I thought it was rather Burnett-ish.. and was hoping it would act as a foreshadowing to their downfall during the pitstop (You bad. You get stomach ache), but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
Speaking of the pitstop, eating a kilo of caviar is just too lame lame lame. They make Gervase look good eating those Malaysian grubs. Kudos to Botox-man a.k.a Chip for downing the 2 pounds of fish roe like there’s no tomorrow. I still dislike him though.
My favourite teams, the twins and the moms had me worried there. I’m so glad they made it through. I am so rooting these two teams right up to the end. And as for Bob and Joyce.. It was bittersweet to see them get eliminated this round. I don’t have any strong feelings for them, but when Bob was cheering her on at the pitstop and the scene during their carriage ride to the pitstop was very beautiful. Oh my. I think they might convince me that it IS possible to find love on the internet after all.

NAH! I doubt it. But it’s nice to see them together. Bob also had one of the best quotes of the week : “I’m so proud of her” (as he hugged Joyce after being told they were eliminated”. Another quote of the week was by Colin : “I’m so proud of her” (insincerely as he looked away from Christie with his stone faced expression, while Phil told them they were the second team to arrive). Oooh one more quote : “Are you gonna hug me again?” by a nervous Phil as he was approached by Mirna when he was clearly thinking “Oh great, not again”. LOL
I’ve been overwhelmed with many new tunes that’s worth mentioning of late. First up, there’s the wonderful new group Alter Bridge. To those unfamiliar with the band, it’s formed by three band members of the now defunct rock bank Creed. (Weren’t they supposed to come to KL last year?)

Mark Tremonti (guitar and vocals), Brian Marshall (Bass) and Scott Phillips (drums) are now without Scott Stapp, their ex-lead vocalist. The group first had controversy when Brian Marshall mysteriously left Creed after his remarks over “Eddie Vader (of Pearl Jam) wishing that he can sound like Scott Stapp”. Less than a year after his departure, the entire group disbanded, only to band again together to form the new group, Alter Bridge, without Stapp (who will be launching his own solo project soon). I can’t say that I’m all that surprised to see Stapp going his own way.. Now we know what Gary Barlow, Ronan Keating and Scott Stapp have in common. I call it the lead singer syndrome. LOL
Anyway, Alter Bridge now has a new vocalist. A certain Myles Kennedy, who once opened a few jigs for Creed. Though comparisons between him and Stapp will be made by fans and listeners alike, Kennedy brings his own rock edginess to Alter Bridge. And as for the new single, “Open Your Eyes”. This could possibly be my new favourite track of the year. For a smaple clip of the song “Open Your Eyes” and more information on Alter Bridge, visit their website at The Official Alter Bridge Website (the website’s concept reminds me of the 3d image renderings of Gabriel Knight 3 : Blood of the Sacred Blood of the Damned)
Next on the line, something from our local scene. Ever heard of the band Nitrus? Well, some of you may remember them from two years back. The local band won the title of Most Promising New Artiste at the 2002 AIM Awards. Yep, bukan calang-calang band la brader. Though the group had quite a revamp, they are finally back with some new material.

I’ve had the privilege to listen to a few unfinished materials from their forthcoming album, and I was quite blown away by some of the tracks. The album consist of both Malay and English songs, and don’t expect to hear lovey dovey jiwang karat kinda song from these guys. Each of their tracks is a poem that has a certain theme or message for the listeners. It’s just an added bonus that they are presented in the form of songs that are pleasant to the ears. Hopefully, I’ll be able to grab a hold of these guys for an interview for our sister publication. Check out two of their tracks at MusicCanteen.com
And finally, I Believe. American Idol fanatics will know, that is a line from Fantasia Barrino’s debut single which debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard chart several weeks ago. I’m glad the track finally made it’s way to our local shores, but they sure took their time, didn’t they?
I’ve had the MP3 more than two weeks ago, so I’ve already had the lyrics memorized in my head. The song is so and so at first listen, but I am completely impressed by Diana DeGarmo’s rendition of that song. For a comparison between the two, take a listen here (You can hear Diana singing the track on the right speaker, and Fantasia on the left). Interestingly enough, Fantasia and Diana were both picked from the first batch in the Final 32 selection. Diana singing the first song and Fantasia singing the last.

Maybe I’m biased but I really loved Diana’s rendition. She’s only 16 years old and things can only get better for this young girl. I’ve also had the privilege to listen to her other two studio recorded tracks, “Dreams” and her cover of Melissa Manchester’s “Don’t Cry Out Loud”. Diana’s live performance of “Don’t Cry Out Loud” (during the Final Three show) was perhaps the best performance of the entire season, and some of the magic was gone in the studio version.
I was listening to Mix FM at noon today and I heard them play Fantasia’s I Believe. I called them up (and miraculously got through on my first try) and asked if they had Diana’s version. Unfortunately, they don’t. Perhaps I should just mail them the MP3s. Oh well. I’m gonna wait for her album anyway, cause she obviously wasn’t kidding when she sang “I Got The Music In Me” in the Final 32 selection. You sure do, Diana. You sure do.
I missed the first half of the results show on Sunday, so I had to wait for the repeat on TV3 on Monday. Nothing interesting happened much in the first half (or the second half, for that matter). Jien is becoming increasingly more comfortable hurling abuses at Paul Moss (which so reminds me of Ryan sitting on Simon’s laps). Rydee surprised me with her long straight hair. Much like Boomquisha, I would’ve prefered her original curly hair, but it’s alright I guess.
That kinda reminds me of a joke a friend forwarded me a few days earlier (translated):
RiceNoodle was extremely envious of WetChineseNoodle. Even though they sat side by side in the supermarket aisle, they have never talked to each other. In fact RiceNoodle often threw sarcastic remarks to WetChineseNoodle in public. “Oy, Big Yellow Fattie.. do you think people like you so damn much?”. Days go by, and WetChineseNoodle just kept her cool and never retaliated. Until one day, the store worker moved WetChineseNoodle to a new place. RiceNoodle was exteremely pleased as she didn’t have to look at her nemesis on a daily basis anymore. The next day, the store worker placed a new rack next to RiceNoodle. It was a spaghetti rack. RiceNoodle was extremely furious, as she shouted “Oy Big Yellow Fattie!! Bitch please. You think I’m not gonna recognize you after all that rebonding treatment?”
Well, I think it’s funny.
Anyway, these are the judges’ picks :
Roslan picked Anis, Andrew and Hairil
Gee picked Rinie, Anis and Rydee
Paul picked Andrew, Hairil and Rinie
All three of my picks were picked by the judges (Anis, Rydee and Rinie). For once, their picks weren’t all over the place. Besides Rydee, each had at least two judges favouring them to advance.
The actual results however, are as follows :
1. Andrew! Not bad. He didn’t impress me that much on his performance during the workshop, but he sure can sing. He had the most number of votes from this batch! Congratulations Andrew. Hope you’ll be more confident in your future performances.
2. Fazly! I can’t say that I was surprised to see him make the cut (even though I had him in my pre-show picks). I like this guy because he’s got character and his own style. Vocal wise, he’s pretty good. I’m rather worried because we’ve never heard him sing an English song before. But from his interviews, his English didn’t sound bad at all. I hope Fadzli will surprise me.
3. Victor! Biggest surprise for me. It was a nailbiter who was going to make it. Either Victor or Rydee. I was almost convinced Rydee was gonna make it, but it wasn’t meant to be. Victor didn’t wow me as much as his rendition of Anuar zain’s song a few weeks ago. Hopefully, that will change from now on.
So.. that’s it. I was right on two of my three guesses on who Malaysia will pick (Victor and Fazli). So.. 6 finalists.. 5 guys and 1 gal. Should I start worrying?
Izad - out.
Finally Malaysians got it right for the first time. After a few weeks being saved by pity votes, Nurul finally leaves the Akademi tonight. As noted by the brilliantly funny host, it seems as though Nurul seemed more cheerful leaving the show than being on it. Perhaps that can be said by most of us viewers too.
Nurul - Lucky
It’s ironic that Nurul is not so lucky tonight. After a few weeks hanging on to the competition by a thread, she had to pack her bags this week. Nurul’s got a decent stage presence, but what good is a stage presence if she’s weak vocal-wise. It was a good attempt, but her voice is arguably the weakest among everyone left in the competition. The boa is just not enough to save you this time, sweetie.
Unlucky Nurul’s not so Lucky tonight
Bob - Salam Terakhir
Aznil never fails to crack me up. His comments about the title of this song (about it being his swan song) was funny and almost prophetic (my gut told me that Nurul and Farah were going to be saved again with pity votes, and making Bob the victim). Bob has a powerful voice, but to me, he’s just not charismatic enough. I do admire his confidence though.
Linda - Akan Ku Tunggu
My favourite female contestant failed to impress me this week. Maybe it’s because I keep on comparing her rock performance to Nija’s final performance last year (nothing beats that still). Or maybe she was just overshadowed by the two great guitarists, Man Kidal and Sham (Kamikaze). Overall, it was just alright. That said, I think she could’ve performed much much better.
Kaer - Bunga Pujaan
Other than his cute, innocent, boyish good looks, I still fail to see what is so special about Kaer. His performance tonight was so lacklustre and it’s been deteriorating week by week. One of the judge mentioned that it seemed his heart was no longer in this competition, and I’m inclined to agree. I feel bad for him. Well, not really.
Farah - Jangan Kau Mimpi
Man, I hate hate HATE this song. It’s a weird frickin song. However, I’m beginning to like Farah’s voice. She was clearly out of breath during the song, but overall, it was a good performance. And the little snippet of her crying at the Akademi? My friend told me that she cried not because she missed her family, but it was because she gained like 3 kilos for the past couple of weeks. I hope that’s not true, cause if that was the real reason, that is just a sick message she’s sending out to teenage girls, and viewers everywhere.
Zahid - Cinta Sakti
Man, just give Zahid the trophy already. I loved it when the crowd cheered him like mad as he entered the stage. I’m not even going to go on saying how brilliant he was. I would like to, however, comment on the little surprise the Akademi had given him. The surprise home visit by Misha Omar did not only glee him to no end, but it was also one of the most interesting surprises by far to be enjoyed by the viewers as well. Bravo AF! And Zahid, keep on rocking!
Mas - Tamparan Wanita
When she was singing the lines “aku tak selemah yang kau sangka”, I was going “Oh but yes you are. Yes you are”. Mas is yet again, the most popular student in the Akademi. The thing is, I’m not even sure if her popularity has anything to do with her vocal talents. For me, personally, her novelty is wearing off. She sounded like crap for her past few performances. I’m placing half the blame on the song selections, and half on her for showing zero improvemnt for the past few weeks.
Adam - Smooth Criminal
Imitation - good. Dancing - goood. Singing - baaaaaad. Again, I would like to blame his paltry performance on a very bad song selection (what were the teachers smoking?). All I could make out of his singing was… well, nothing really… except for “Are you okay? Are you Okay?”.. No, I’m NOT okay, Adam. The rest of the song was inaudible. In between his thin rasps and Bob’s surprise dancing moves, I didn’t even know where to focus my attention to. I finally settled on going to the bathroom to pee.
Group Ensemble - Dua Insan & Kita Insan Biasa
I was quite impressed by the group performance. Mas even surprised me with her lines. I was then convinced the teachers were trying to fuck her up by giving her some really really bad songs for her vocal range. Mas could sing, after all. Everyone else (with the exception of Nurul, and to a ceratin extent Adam) delivered the song quite well.
Tonight’s show wasn’t all that great. Thank God the Queer Guys managed to salvage whatever’s left of my Saturday night in. Well, only 2 more bootees till we arrive at the Finale - the Top Five. At this point, my guess is that Bob and Farah will take their walk of shame before the Finale arrives.
Fack you, Roslan Aziz. Fack you in your ear. It’s not considered racist only
if you’re dissing your own race. So unless you come from a Javanese ancestry,
then you better hope I don’t come across you in public. He has a point,
though… some Malaysian singers do tend to sound ultra weird with their bad
English dictions and pronounciation, it’s embarassing. Let’s face the facts, the
only way that’s stopping Siti Nurhaliza from becoming an international superstar
is her English. Sorry Siti. But damn you Roslan.. damn you all the way to
bitterdivorceelosersville.
*composes self*
Anyway, the second workshop was quite a disappointment. It reminds me so much of
American Idol’s second group of Finalists. It was all .. meh.. but it could’ve
been worse.. there were no Roman brothers. Yay!
Amanda - (A song by Tracy Chapman)
Sorry, but I forgot the name of her chosen song. There was nothing spectacular
about her performance. I didn’t feel her outfit and performance fit the song at
all. Her voice was just alright for me. Totally forgettable. A 4
Fisza - Get Here (Oleta Adams)
I like this song. But unfortunately, it’s a boring song to bring on a show like
this. This performance reminds me of Brianna’s “Don’t Know Why”. Fisza sang
well, but I think this was not a good song choice. A 5
Hairil - To Where You Are (Josh Groban)
I was ready to bolt out the door when this guy came on stage. His rehearsals
sounded absolutely horrendous! However, he did surprisingly well with this song.
No doubt his dictions can be improved, and his performance was nowhere near Josh
Groban proportions, but at least he managed to hit all the right notes! I’m
impressed. Not the best song choice, but I am so relieved (for his sake) that he
made it. I’ve been listening to Josh Groban long before his CD ever reached our
shores, and I think he did the song justice. Well done. A 7 and a half.
Aifa - Dia (Sheila Majid)
If I was in the audience, I would’ve given this girl a flower or something, just
to taunt that bald judge. This was a fun song, but the performance was really,
really average. A 5
Andrew - Broken Vow (Josh Groban)
What is this? Josh Groban night? LOL Andrew started off quite weak, in my
opinion, but he picked it up right after the second verse, all the way through.
Andrew’s a pretty cool guy.. he sings well, he looks great, he kinda reminds me
of my ex-colleague. All in all, a good performance. A 7
Anis - Sekadar Di Pinggiran (Francesca Peters)
Aahh.. don’t this song bring back memories? I think the only reason Paul
commented that this song was “Bintang RTM” material was because this song WAS
the winning song from “Bintang RTM” a few years back. Sheesh! I mean, come on!
This song is a classic! (I think Linda pulled this one off superbly in Akademi
Fantasia too). Anis pulled this one off beautifully. I love her voice, and she’s
got the whole package to be a star. I hope she goes far. An 8

Rinie - Greatest Love Of All (Whitney)
Paul Moss got this one right. You’re never gonna be as good as the original if
you’re gonna pick a Whitney song (I know Quentin Tarantino and Boomquisha would
beg to differ, though), but Rinie picked this song beautifully. Obviously not as
good, but it was quite nicely done. Bravo. A 7 and a half
Victor - Belaian Jiwa (Carefree)
Oh Victor, Victor, Victor. Such a disappointment! I had high hopes for him. He
pulled off an Anuar Zain song wonderfully some time ago (and Anuar Zain’s songs
are hard!), and I was expecting him to repeat a similar performance tonight. He
chose a nice Malay song, but I felt he copied Innuendo’s style too much! I
wished he had sang it in his own way (ala Vince from Akademi Fantasia) but it
really did sound a bit boring. Sorry man. A 6 and a half.

Rydee - I Believe In You And Me (Whitney)
Okay.. what is this.. Whitney+Josh theme night? But I gotta give props to
Rydee.. I think she made this song her own.. there’s little trace of Whitney in
the song. She sang it rather splendidly with her raspy and husky voice. She
sounds a tad like Camille Velasco (which isn’t saying much) but arguably, the
best performance of the night, IMO. An 8
Aisha - Tiada Lagi (Mayang Sari)
Aisha sounded pretty great in the beginning, but halfway through the song, I was
ready to go and make myself a cup of coffee. She can sing well, but there was
nothing special about her performance. Next. A 6 and a half.
Fadzly - Mengapa Perpisahan Yang Kau Pinta (Flybaits)
LOL at his retorts to Paul’s Elvis remarks. I was actually expecting him to put
more out there. Where were the bell bottoms, man? Hehe.. This guy’s got a great
voice and he’s very comfortable with the camera. I’m sure he has a number of
fans out there. I’m not sure he will appeal to the everyone with his style
though. For once, I think Gee gave a good advice. He’s got a good voice, good
stage presence. Just lose the gimmick, and be yourself, man. A 7 and a half.
My Top 3 choice and votes will go to :
Anis, Rydee, Rinie
Malaysia’s Choice will probably be :
Rydee, Victor, Andrew
Izad - Out.
Less than 24 hours till the sexond workshop of Malaysian Idol goes on air. It’s hard to make the pre-show pics. I’m gonna have to rely heavily on the past few audition episodes and be at the mercy of the show’s editor and cameraman. For the my 1st Workshop’s pre-show picks, I think Zamil was the only one who wasn’t pimped by the camera. If only Sufiah was given as much pre-show exposure as the others, I’m sure she would’ve made the cut. I hope some of the contestants from this batch will surprise me like she did.
Anyway, here’s my pre-show picks for the Second Workshop
ANIS, RYDEE

VICTOR, FADZLI
If Rydee knows what’s good for her she would stay as far away from singing ‘Yellow Brick Road’. ssts.
“DOes my hair look okay?”. LOL Can Mirna BE more obvious about wanting to get into Phil’s pants? Charla’s respond to her cousins remarks were priceless. Oooh and the part where she took the clue from the little chocolate guy was interesting too. I’m liking this team more and more. They maintained their second position in the race. So Bravo! However, their editing is slowly getting bad.. from next week’s promo, it seems that they are going to get into yet another’s team Hate List. They’ll probably be eliminated in the next episode.

If they don’t, it’ll probably be the following week, and team Pizzathetic will get the boot instead. The brothers annoying a tad less annoying this week. It’s good to see they can still crack a smile even though they’ve spent more than ahour in vain looking for the chocolate with the white creme center.
I’m glad we’re seeing more and more of the two younger couples (Colin/Christie and Brandon/Nicole). They’ve been under the radar the past two weeks. I like the Gabe-wannabe couple a little less than the other, but they’re not too bad (so far). The bowling moms are fun. They’re the ones I’ll be rooting for till the end, along with the twins.

I love the twins! I hope they’re not gonna get screwed by the baldie with an extreme facelift aka ChiMp and Kim. ChiMp was a total jackass about the whole taxi incident last week. I’m not gonna let him off the hook just yet.
The internet dating couple, Bob and Joyce are doing quite well.. which surprised me! They could be the underdog to win it all! I didn’t really expect Jim and Marsha to be eliminated, but they were totally screwed when they missed the two early flights in the beginning. Very very ironic seeing how they were the first one who bought tickets from the counter. Just like Alison and Donny last week, they made one fatal mistake, and they are out of the game. Poor bastards.
I loved the tiny little island that they used for this week’s pitstop, and how they had to tread the water to get to it. Wasn’t Survivor 9 supposed to be filmed there, in Patagonia, before they decided to go with Vanuatu? As for the challenges this week, nothing was out of the ordinary. The paragliding detour was uber FUN! Mama D, you better get that videocam ready, so we don’t miss the deadline for next season’s Explorace. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…..!
Oh my my my… I just got my first hate mail. I feel so accomplished. LOL. Guess I should’ve placed a disclaimer in here earlier. Apparently a fan had written to me telling me off about my rather.. mmm harsh.. comments on one of the Malaysian Idol contestants. I would’ve emailed that person back but the email got bounced (btw, IRK is a verb, not a noun. Just FYI). And well.. what do you know.. all 3 of my Malaysian Idol pre-show picks made it through to the next round. Would you look at that…
So here goes my obligatory, political correct(ish) disclaimer.

Wow.. just wow. Malaysians are such suckers for pity parties. That’s all I’m gonna say right now.
Anyway, back to the show. We were given almost 48 long hours to text in our votes. I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad idea. Personally, I think it sucks. Votings are even allowed 5 minutes before they announced the winner. At this rate, the telecomms CEO will probably get a new Mercedes Benz on an hourly basis!
Highlights of the show.. well, nothing much really. I liked the kindest and harshest comments of the week segment. The judges also shared their thoughts on who would make it to the next round from this first group.
Roslan picked Sufiah, Dina and Rizal.
Gee picked Sufiah, Dina and Zamil.
Paul picked Nikki, Vick and Sufiah.
Well at least two of my picks were the same as the judges (Sufiah and Zamil). I was surprised that all three of the judges picked Sufiah, because I haven’t been getting positive vibes from the general public on her.
Anyway, the actual results came in and the three chosen for the Finals were … *drumrolls*..
1. DINA! Yay! So my homegirl made it. I didn’t think that was her best performance, but we’ve seen from the auditions that she has a good voice. Bravo! JB is proud of you.
2. ZAMIL! Yay!! My original pre-show and post-show pick made it. You go, Bobot Jr! I get Matt vibes from him though, but that’s a good thing. I’ll be rooting for you, kiddo.
3. VICK! I’m sorry… There’s something about this guy that really irks me. I don’t know what the hell it is, but I just wish they would stop goddamn pimping this guy. But who knows, it worked for Fantasia, maybe it’ll work for him too. But I don’t think I would ever give a single vote to him.
I’m disappointed that Syima didn’t make it. She will be missed. I am even more disappointed that Sufiah did not make the cut. I guess the general public really don’t know a good voice when they hear one.
