OMFG The almost impossible had just happened. I am, of course, referring to the fact that whoever I root for usually does NOT win… Well anyway…
I can not remember the last time I have been happier at the outcome of a reality show. Seriously I can’t. Perhaps when Sandra won Pearl Islands, but that is absolutely nothing compared to the pure joy that I’m feeling right now. I’m still positively orgasming right now as we speak.
Okay.. a really short recap.. the review did a rundown of the previous episodes.. all the way from the first episode to the last, chronicling how the teams were eliminated. The Pinoy team lost their way. Perky bitches got left behind. Arrogant model pricks broke the rules. The Singaporean girls got stuck in the mud. Sahran faced his fears (but got eilminated anyways). AndyLau got eliminated by an ironic twist of fate (”YOU WANKER!” LOL). The M&Ms surprisingly got delyaed by an eating challenge.
So, at the start of this final leg, they had to assemble a puzzle showing what their destination was going to be. Of course, it was the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 banner. LOL If that wasn’t the most blatant and shameless self promotion ever, I don’t know what is (yeah guys, wait till you watch Amazing Race All Stars *wink*). Anyway, the airport scene finally gave us some sort of airport drama where different teams got on different routes. I mean, it’s Dubai.. there are millions of flights going to KL. Nevermind the teams ended up within minutes of each other, I still wish we’d see more of this in the next season.
They then had to get a clue from KL Tower which leads them to Kuching, Sarawak (congrats Romeo for calling out on this!!). No drama this time as they’re back again on sponsored Air Asia flights. Once there, Joe Jer & Zabrina did the most smartest thing ever, that helped them gain a lot of lead in this final leg, and that is to enlist the help of a taxi driver to help show their ways around the city. The first clue in Kuching was at one of the many many Cat statues in town which leads them to another clue at the old courthouse.. which in turn leads them to a Detour.
Brains or Brawns - hey sounds like my last entry about Sandy & Francesca. LOL. Nobody did Brawns so I’m not going to bother. For Brains they had to assemble a wooden bench based on still images on a sponsored Sony Cybershot. Andrew & Syeon and Sandy & Francesca whizzed their way through, while Joe Jer & Zab fumbled through an additional 15 minutes. Aiya.. these girls ahh.. must not buy a lot of Ikea stuff one.. hahah just kidding.
They then headed to Sarawak Cultural Village near the foothills of Santubong (which was beautiful btw) to search for clues in their many many longhouses. Andrew & Syeon lost the race here when they couldn’t find their way out of Kuching and to the Kampung Budaya. You’d think being a local would give him an advantage of getting the help from locals, but I guess it wasn’t. They should’ve gotten a helpful fern to get in the car with them. I mean, they HAD $120.
Joe Jer and Zabrina along with Sandy and Francesca got their clues at the same time. They then had to blow some blowdarts into some pineapples. And THIS was where JoeZab won the race. Instead of tracing their way back out of the cultural village like SanFran, JoeZab were smart enough to use a short cut out… which put them in the lead. BRAVO!!!!
They headed down to their final roadblock which was an obstacle course through the Permai Rain Forest. The roadblock was numbered, and Zabrian went first, with Francesca following closely behind. I don’t think Francesca would be allowed to overtake Zabrian on the course even if she wanted to. Anyway, they received their final clue to go to the FINAL PITSTOP in the Baku National Park, hidden somewhere in the middle of the mangrove swamps (this has GOT the be the most weirdest pitstops ever).
The boatrace to the finish was suspenseful. I have never been so on the edge of my seats and literally biting my nails. And in the end…. JOE JER AND ZABRINA WON THE RACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, this has been the BEST FUCKING AMAZING FUCKING RACE FUCKING EVER!!! I could NOT have asked for a more better outcome. I would’ve been happy with SanFran or AndrewSyeon winning too, but right now, I’m just ecstatic.
CONGRATS ONCE AGAIN TO JOE JER AND ZABRINA FOR PROVING MALAYSIA BOLEH!! And for future Malaysian applicants (yes I’m talking to you too Fat Bitch) Joe Jer & Zab has raised the bar sky high, so you best be prepared if you’re considering to audition for the second season.

actually, now looking at the recap, i have to give props to sahran for actually performing (some of) the tasks, esp overcoming his fear of height. imagine if you were a regular starbucks drinking manicure lovin’ model (or something), then suddenly you have to do this and that, it’s quite amazing really. even though you were supposed to do them lah, cos you signed up for it in the first place…

anyway my bro told me about the final being in kch but i couldn’t watch the 9pm show and had to wait till 1 am to catch the repeat.
if i heard correctly, allan said “teams must now drive 32 km to camp permai” that bit must have been recorded while he was still in kch or whatever cos permai is just down the road from the cultural village, a few minutes walk away. or if u drive, then it’d be like driving from Imbi to Sungai Wang or something.
anyway, i just hate the person who left the spoiler in my blog right now (with no fecking warning whatsoever), so much! cos that really took all the suspense away. still, was a good final episode and a good win!

BTW you’re right, that is the weirdest pitstop ever haha. i think they really should have finished the race like at the top of mount santubong or something hahahaha that’s only an 800 meter or so trek mah kah kah kah. that way can promote VMY07 some more, with a magnificent view in the background, instead of being in the dark shadow of a rock formation or mangrove tree or whatever. and how lucky were they (and for VMY07) that it was a sun shiny beautiful day for the final leg!

My favorite team won! TARA 1 definitely sets a hard-to-beat benchmark for subsequent TARA series.
Initially I believed the punters’ forecast about Sandy & Fran winning when they did one smart thing - stopping at some hotel on the way to KLIA for a map of how to get to the cat statues. Who would have thought some bloke in KL knew enough to draw a detailed street map of downtown KCH! What luck.
But its too bad for Andrew & Syeon who relied more on maps and less on the locals’ directions. By the time they realized their mistake, the other teams were well on their way to Santubong cultural park. It also didn’t cross their mind that its easier to pay a taxi driver to lead the way rather than do everything DIY. You can’t go strictly by the book and expect to win a race.
The race was won at the cultural park when Zab and JJ overtook Sandy & Fran by figuring out it was shorter to walk forward to the park’s exit than to backtrack the way they came which the Hongkies did. Did they take the trouble to memorize the park’s map or it was dumbass luck. Either way, that smart decision sealed the fate of the race. I found myself at the edge of my seat thinking that their boat engine might stall on the last stretch of the race. And how sweet is victory when you win by the breadth of a hair!
I still think the final episode should have been a 2-hour show. The director rushed through too many scenes. I would have loved to see how the teams arrived within minutes of each other at KLIA because teams took different routes, the Malaysians on a direct flight while Sandy/Fran flew via Bangkok. They could have given more coverage to how the teams fought to reach KL Tower from the airport, how they rushed back to KLIA and how they drove to Santubong park. My own drive to Santubong took me more than an hour from Kuching and I got lost a couple of times.
Well, show’s over and Thursday evenings are gonna be a bit less interesting but its a happy ending for me. Mucho congrats to the first all-girl team to evar win an Amazing Race!
Btw anyone know if Zabrina Fernandez is related to Tony Fernandez? Just a wild thought, hee hee.

Boo : The ending really was quite suspenseful during the boat ride. SanFran seemed so close behind!
Romeo : Sucks that you didn’t manage to go to the party, but hey, at least you didn’t miss the show!
Cely : Those were the hippies right? I liked that they won their season too!
Famil : I know! I think I actually cried out loud “Hurry up!” at that time.. perhaps editing fooled us into believing that SanFran was really close behind? I doubt JoeZab would take a leisurely stroll if SanFran was right on their trails. And you’re right about MAS. My bad
Suanie : Yeah in hindsight, Sahran made the season more interesting and at least he didn’t get eliminated for quitting. So kudos to him!
Y : LOL at the Jane Goody reference. Usually the host would record everything before the race starts (same goes with Phil) so I wasn’t really paying attention to Allen. Oh and I actually came across the spoiler at your site.. but I was also hearing spoilers about SanFran winning .. and most recently yesterday, spoilers about Andrew & Syeon winning. I didn’t know which spoiler to believe so it was still quite suspenseful for me. And yes, it would’ve been nice if they went up on Santubong for the final pitstop.
Gallivanter : Dude, watch the repeat if you can. There were some awesome on-the-edge-of-your-seat moments.
Bustard : Agreeing with all that you said. It really should’ve been a two hour finale, but it was still a good show in the end. The editing has gotten better, although if you watch the show again, I think you can sorta tell that from the teams’ ‘interviews and confessionals’ on the beach, that Joe Jer & Zab won. Andrew & Syeon looked kinda pissed. And SanFran just weren’t that excited. Don’t know about Zab & Tony, but I think JJ (the DJ from Mix FM) is Zabrina’s brother. And don’t let go of your Thursdays yet.. I think there’s a special Never-Before-Seen special episode next week.

Joe Jer Speaks!
Hi to all my amazing Racers,
How have all of you been? Miss you all very much. Wish I was at the premiere party. Zab told me how much fun everyone had and I am kicking myself for missing it. But not too much because I had a truly fabulous time in Colombia.
Forget all the negative reports you have read about the country. Colombia is, in my humble opinion, the most beautiful country I have ever been to. It has different landscapes, from the Andes to the flat valleys to the beautiful Caribbean coast. Beautiful waterfalls, crystal clear rivers, the list just goes on and on.
I am now back in Malaysia, cringing every time they air my big fat face. I know they say the camera adds 10 pounds. But as my friends would ask, “How many cameras were on you?” I hardly get recognized on the streets, except when I’m with Zab. Which is a compliment really, because it’s telling me I look nothing like Miss Tofu Face on-air. My boyfriend now calls me Tofu Head. The sweetest term of endearment ever.
Looking back at the Race, I realize how incredibly lucky I am to be able to take part in this wonderful competition with 19 truly amazing people. Not to mention the entire production team. I now have places to stay for free all over the world. Hint! Hint! Most of all, I would never have asked for a better teammate than Zabrina. Prior to the Race, our friends predicted that we would be at each other’s throats the entire time because we are both opinionated and we speak our mind. But how wrong were they? What you’ve seen on-air is not exaggerated. There is a genuine love for each other there. We went into the Race as good friends. We came out of the Race as best friends.
Alrighty, enough of my rambling. I really hope to see the entire Amazing Race Asia team soon. Please let there be another party!!!!!

And I too keep wondering why the teams bother to carry around their bags even though the clues already mention that they’re going to the pitstop (applies to all pitstops.. not just the final pitstop.)
