Amazing Race Asia 2 - Episode 5

by @ 10:57 pm. Filed under Amazing Race

Well, I’m back from Bali (it was fun, a little overrated, but still fun nonetheless, and I’ll be back there again for sure). Was (un)fortunate enough to catch Asian Idol while I was there. I wasn’t too thrilled about Jac’s performance. I mean, it was really good, but I thought Mike did slightly better.. and I was already resigned to the possibility that Jac might not win. Call me unpatriotic, but that’s how I truly felt at the time. Of course, that didn’t prepare me for the laughable results that came on Sunday. LOL Oh well, c’est la vie, no?

I caught the Episode 4 of TARA2 earlier this week.. and my intense burning hatred for Marc/Roviltwat has increased a hundred times over. Their little skit at the pit stop last week, was vomit inducing sickening.Fucking mediawhores. I’m going to miss Sophie/Aurelia. One of the more interesting team dynamics we’ve had this year. It would NOT have been the same if Sophie had gone on to the show with her original partner. I’ll miss Aurelia’s antics. No new English words for her, I guess.

Now, back to this week. Teams drive from Rotorua to Auckland and fly out to Tokyo. I was bloody excited because, we have NEVER had a dull Japanese leg! Japanese legs are always interesting no matter how SHITTY some of the teams are (yes, I’m looking at two teams in particular). The language barrier, and I know things are costly in Japan, so teams might have to really be careful with their spendings there (it’s interesting that TARA never tells the viewer how much money the teams are given at the beginning of each leg).

All teams are on the same flight to Tokyo. Once there they had to find their route marker at Shiba Park. Some of the teams got hopelessly lost and lost a lot of time looking for the route marker. Sucks to be them. They next had to direct a rickshaw to Sony Building in Ginza. Those rickshaw pullers must be the local Ironmen or something, cause they were definitely running through the streets. Next, the producers rather remarkably used the EXACT SAME CHALLENGE from Sydney last year, where they had to sing the Sakura song with a public, and recording it using a Sony Handycam. Lack of creative juice, much? They should fucking consult with the producers of the Kelly Osbourne goes to Japan show. Lazy dumbass producers.

Speaking of Kelly Osbourne, (I love that show, btw, she’s like a slightly grounded version of that overexposed Hilton bitch), the next clue was to identify a Cosplay girl. Once they found that, it was a detour between (1) Catch It - where they had to catch 40 goldfish using a paper sieve thingy, or (2) Cart It - where they had to deliver a kimono somewhere. Next was a roadblock, where they had to go to Icebar Tokyo and rearrange icecube clues to form a Japanese city. The clue turns out to be Fukuoka, where they had to travel to Fukuoka using the bullet train.

All teams were bunched together on the same train which leaves the next day, and it was a taxi ride race to the next pitstop at the Pyramid International Congress Centre. In the order of arrival at the pitstop

  1. Ann and Diane

Unfortunately for the Dancing Mums, Allan announced that the race is going to continue.. which means this was a To Be COntinued leg. What a bummer.. Anyway, my commentaries on the teams (in no particular order):

    Oh good, you’re back.

I am not too happy with the design of this leg and the last, but because this is a TBC leg, I suppose it is to be expected that a big bunch at the end renders everything prior to the moment meaningless.

Marc and Rovilson have entered BJ and Tyler territory and stink up the place some more. They are so irritatingly fake to watch, I feel like my skin is turning plastic just watching them bow before that statue thing in New Zealand. I think they are going to win this season because this kind of shows hates me that way.

Terri is a piece of work as well. At least Flo only showed her inner monster in the last few episodes of TAR3. She had some cute moments as well. Terri on the other hand barks like a deranged dog. The two Filipino teams are the major irritants of this season (and so are their fans on the official forum - like attract like, I suppose).

Diane must have tried to lie or did something shady to some other teams and word spread among the others, I think, because I can’t imagine folks like Daichi and Sawaka - who are so cute in this episode - will trash talk people without any given reason. Besides, when so many teams are united in their dislike for Diane, the problem has to be, I think, Diane. She clearly rubbed them off the wrong way and the show so far has not shown us why.

I still adore Pamela and Vanessa and I’m also rooting for the Japanese and Singaporean teams as well.

As for Allan Wu, let’s just say that I wish I had taped some of his Singaporean dramas to remind me why I should not want to tickle his oh-so-cute dimples. Okay, I’ll see a shrink soon but DID YOU SEE HOW CUTE HE IS WHEN HE DID THAT OH NO THE RACE IS STILL ON THING? The smile? The cheeky glint in his eyes? Allan in a trench coat thing? Swoon.

Since this season is ripping off tasks from seasons past, I hope we get a water polo roadblock soon so that Allan will show up in something from Aussiebum. If you’ll excuse me, I’ll go hide my face in shame for having typed the last two paragraphs.

speaking of the pinoy mactors & pooping, the yawning skit just worsened my constipation.
even my bowels hate those idiots.

& someone please take terri to the vet. she obviously has rabies. see the crazy eyes, the foaming at the mouth, the yelling? she yells at her husband for no particular reason other than to hear herself scream. probably thought that was fun tv, too. fun tv is watching you get trampled on by the kerbaus, bitch.

  3. jorge Says:

you insult people based on looks. how do you look like, i wonder?
dare you to publish your pic here on your little kingdom.
and your language? terri is way below your high and impeccable standards.

what is interesting is how a deranged woman like terri can keep her man for 13 years
and why other racers feel the way they do about your favorite dancing mums.
there are more to people than what you see in tv shows. and mrs g? like attract like,
as in this admittedly pretentious, judgementaland racist blog. la, meh?

  4. Mrs Giggles Says:

jorge, obviously I’m hit a nerve, eh?

  5. Izad Says:

Jorge LOL.. I have posted my pics here plenty of times before.. I have never had any qualms calling MYSELF a big fatty balding cunt and other names that will make anyone’s grandma’s blush.. the thing is, when people signed up for this show, they should know they’d be subject to people’s critism.. (I had also said before that if *I* were to get on this show.. everything is fair game)… so, tough shit. (and ps. I’ve never hidden the fact that I disliked her behaviour on the show on Sucks and I KNOW she posts there).

  6. Izad Says:

MrsG : yeah I kinda wish this wasn’t a TBC leg.. Daichi & Sawaka basically pwned this leg of the race, and I would’ve felt better if they headed right to the pitstop after the last Roadblock (without the train bunching). I do agree that Diane must’ve done something terribly wrong, cause we are hearing comments from THREE different teams about her. We’ll probably see what was up with that in the next show.. it just didn’t make sense why they would edit those comments in, and only to have the Dancing Mums end up at 1st place at this pseudo-pitstop. I don’t think things are looking well for them besides their placement. And don’t even get me started on the tardos posting at the official TAR forum. I quit that place over a year ago. It’s laughable.

Freako : I don’t know why.. but I like Roviltwat a lot LOT less than Marc. Marc’s just kinda .. there, ya know. Not trying to squeeze his brains every microsecond to come up with a ‘witty’ one-liner. I used to feel bad for Henry for getting yelled at every GADDAMN (as Terri would put it) time… but well, it’s his choice.

Jorge : I’m not sure where the racist comment came from. If you’re talking about the Pinoy teams, it’s just shitty luck that two of the four Pinoy people on that show turned out to be the most insufferable. It has nothing to do with their nationalities.

  7. Deric Says:

Cool blog. Aren’t the dancing mums supposed to be the super calm team who’ll sit and meditate when everyone else are being headless chickens. Diane must have done something to piss a few teams off and the producer ain’t telling. Damn, so potong stim.

I’m indifferent to the Marc-Rovilson duo. If they’re in showbiz, then image is everything so why they’re whoring themselves to kingdom come doesn’t surprise me at all. Would we expect anything less if it was our own trying-to-be-funny morning crew radio DJs. Free publicity dudes!

On Pamela and Vanessa, is it me or has the producer decided to give them less and less airtime as the season progresses. I thot their panic+blur+damn sexy appeal would make great tv. Now what they did to the cameraman I wonder.

I’m praying to the great ju-ju in the sea that Henry and the barking Terri(er) will get the boot at the next pit stop. Its a miracle they managed to get this far. Henry’s a real gentleman who’s always trying to make things work. Can’t say the same for the yapping Terri(er). If Henry’s pierced nipples is any indication, I’d say he’s got a high threshold of pain (or maybe he likes pain) so that could be why the marriage hasn’t sunk yet.

Something bothers me about TARA, as did the previous one. Its how they use shameless in-your-face advertising. I mean come on, must they say, “Teams will use a Sony whatever-shit-model handicam to record the singing…” like we cannot see on the screen what brand is the camera lar. How come they don’t do that on TAR. Maybe they think Asians are so thick skinned you gotta sock it to our faces to get the message across. Will Alan soon be saying, “Teams must use an amazing Chevrolet ABC model with dual airbags, plush carpet, great mileage, complete with 2-year warranty, available before February 2008 only at participating dealers to complete the roadblock.” Puke. I swear I’ll ban TARA if they tried.

  8. synical Says:

MrsG - I agree with you re: Allan Wu in trench coat… woo hoo!! Hot!!

His Mandarin dramas are only so-so lah - half the time I don’t think the voice is really his. Doesn’t help that I have this thing for him for nearly 10 years now… :P

  9. y Says:

I haven’t watched enough episodes of TARA to form an opinion of Henry and Terri, although Henry seems alright. But Rovilson makes my cringe everytime he opens his mouth! And I agree with what Deric said regarding our own radio DJs. Some of them are just as bad and would probably act no different than M-R. I do wonder why some Asians just talk like that, what ever happened to their own accents? Semua nak jadi mat celup ni apesal ah? Malu ke diri sendiri yg ori? Unless they grew up in or spent a considerable amount of time in the USA, I just don’t see how one can adopt an American accent so fast and pretend it’s permanent. I like the Japanese team as well as the two girl teams (not the moms).

  10. Remon Says:

    Nyekk!!!

Henrry and Terri are the best, I like them and love to watch them. Terri is a real pinay. We can’t do anything for her it’s already happen, we can’t say to her to shut-up her mouth.

I like Paula and Natasha… I don’t know why that the Thailand don’t have any native thailand team??? In season1 the Thailand team is Andy and Laura both came from UK, and now Paula and Natasha.

  11. Izad Says:

Deric : LMAO! You’re right about the morning crew radio DJs. Oh dear lord.. and don’t even get me started on the Hitz.fm orang utan advertisement on Astro. That is a whole new level of lame. Is it just me, or has the level of humour gone down the mariana trench these days? Love your comments, but you should take back what you said, cause I’m pretty sure the Chevrolet product placement will be shoved down our faces pretty soon.

Synical : Hahaha… okay.. someone posted thess on Sucks.. and I think you and MrsG will love it. http://www.pollpub.com/images/member_photos/PollPub_image_58205_alanwu.jpg and http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1170/647863944_450e253122_o.jpg Have at it! But to his credit, his hosting the show is getting a lot more better this time around (I have a sinking feeling Roviltwat is trying to steal his gig)

Y : I agree!! I love that we’re still hearing Pam & Vanessa’s nyonya slang slipping out here and there. And at least Terri don’t seem to have an American slang. Ditto Daichi and Sawaka, the bowling moms, and the Singaporean lads. Can’t say much about Paula and Natasha or Marc or Roviltwat though.

Remon : That’s cool. Who am I to say that Terri shouldn’t have fans. To each, his/her own. I personally just don’t like her attitude on the show. I agree on the Thailand team thingy.. but there’s no use beating Michael McKay with a dead horse.

  12. zhmi Says:

    Hi Izad,

I’m a newbie here. I stumbled upon your cool blog while I was trying to search for Rovilson (okay, okay he’s not your fave
person) & Vanessa’s much hyped Sony ad. I like reading your latest post & I like your sytle of writing, too. So instead of
continuing with the above-mentioned search, looks like I’ll be spending some time to go through your previous posts.

Btw, try to go easy on Terri, will ya? She may not be the hottest looking female on TARA (hottest temper, definitely)but
she does have a sweet & poignant smile that simply melts my heart. Now if only she smiles more often…

  13. Izad Says:

zhmi : Hey thanks for dropping by. Yeah I might’ve been too harsh with the Terri comment.. but it was all ‘in the heat of the blogging moment’ kinda thing. I’m sure Terri’s a nice person in real life outside this game (and everyone else too), but her persona on screen just makes me cringe most of the time. LOL.

  14. info freako Says:

somehow i feel marc is as eager as his bald boyfriend, but it seems that the editors/producers are giving him the brennan edit. maybe cos they think rov’s wittier than ken doll? gawd.

  15. Izad Says:

freako : if that’s the case, then the editors/producers are even dumber than I originally thought LMAO!

  16. Horatio Says:

Hello man… How r ya? Sorry did not visit ur site for quite some time. been busy with work, outstations, cat thingy blah blah blah.

I agreed with u abt Bali (overated) and the things over there is so over-priced that u need to bargain more than 50% like mad. but the ppl there mostly struggling for a living. u shud hv contact me earlier n i will give a contact on someone in charge of transportation there. darn cheap i tell ya…

ok.. abt TARA2… well, overall, it is kinda exciting fr the 1st season. The tasks are far more challenging this time n fun to watch. there were times i could not understand Terri y she reacted in such a way but hey, isn’t she the main thing that ppl watch TARA2?

  17. Izad Says:

Horatio : HEY! The two things I enjoyed the most in Bali was the Kecak Dance at Uluwatu (truly magical) and the bargaining skills I honed there (I got down to as low as 20% of their original price). I definitely will be back there to do more ornamental shoppings, but not just yet. And I’d certainly be needing your advise when I go to Bangkok later next year! As for TARA2.. yeah you got a point. I’m just glad I only have to see Terri’s reaction once a week. That said, I’m pleasantly surprised to see most of the SurvivorSucks posters are deeming Roviltwunt to be the VILLAIN this season with his in-your-face, unwitty, forced and uncomfortably embarassing one-liners.

  18. Dan Says:

The only time I’ll ever laugh at Rovilscum is when he’s dead.

    ROVILTWAT HATE! IZADBLOG LOVE!

  19. jorge Says:

a twist peculiar to tara is that contestants’ teams are formed by country and supporters expectedly support their own home teams for the most part. criticisms seem harsher when they come from other nationalities. i come from the philippines and i support the phil teams while at the same time appreciating the strengths and race savvy of the other teams, which i will not go into at this point. i guess i support them not out of blind nationalism but precisely because i am a filipino, i feel i can appreciate where they are coming from. how about a mixed asian country pairing next time around?

btw, is this a malaysian blog? when i posted my first comment, previous posts were running along the same line. it is common and safe to post where one feels comfortable and supported in one’s view, is all i meant about that rejoinder to mrs g’s like attracts like. re: racist comment, i am sorry if i have no concrete proof. but do consider the ff. the comment by 1 malaysian team about henry/terri as team africa. admittedly maybe in jest, so we take it with a grain of salt. but the degree of hate and venom directed towards this team is surprising. also criticisms about marc and rovilson’s accent seems unfair. come on, marc is an australian host of several ty shows and rovilson is a fil-american editor of maxim magazine. the way they talk is fairly common in the circles they run in. what’s with the la expression with the chong sisters? its quaint but interesting.

back to henter team, specifically terri, she is certainly not the typical submissive asian woman who uses guile and beauty to get what she wants. she gets into your face and relates to her husband in an equal and powerful role. and henri is not a weakling by any means. its his choice how to relate to her. i think i may bahave different from her but hey its just tv and i will reserve my ranting against child abusers and corrupt government officials among others.

  20. jorge Says:

to izad: i do respect your right to express your opinions in the language you like but
its not for me personally. i would find it emotionally draining and exhausting to spew out
so much acid on a regular basis, not to mention the waste of space for all those curses and expletives. i think
a few well chosen and original jabs might really sting but an overload will just bore and numb.
worse, they might cut further dialogue and exchange of ideas. that is sad.

of course, you know yourself best. it might just be what you need to unload.
hey, nearly new year now. 365 blank pages. happy? writing!!!

  21. Izad Says:

    Mmmm ooookay

  22. Dan Says:

Hey jorge, here’s a few reasons to STFU:

    1) You’re obviously some nutcase wanting attention that nobody’s giving to you at the institute
    2) You’re actually on IZAD’S blog so I think he has his right to write whatever he wants without crackheads like you acting so high and mighty
    3) Stop playing the race card. It’s just ugly.
    4) So you’re ranting against someone because he rants too much about a TV show? Hypocritical much?
    5) and most importantly, you’re a stupid cunt.

Thank you for your time, and have a happy new year.

  23. Izad Says:

Damn you Dan. I thought it was funny when I posted the “Mmmmm oooookay” response. Grrr…

Jorge, sorry if we hurt your feelings. But I think many posters at Survivor Sucks will appreciate your insights on that. Feel free to post there! :)

  24. adilane Says:

terry’s rantings and ravings help keep the ratings up dont you think?
