In case you live under a rock, or perhaps work for The Star variety section, you probably would know by now that there will be no glitz and glam for this year’s Golden Globe awards because of the annoying Writer’s Strike thingy. The results were announced recently, and I have to say that I am VERY pleased with some of the results this year. Results, as taken taken from Variety.com
MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA
“American Gangster”, “Atonement”, “Eastern Promises”, “The Great Debaters” , “Michael Clayton” , “No Country For Old Men” , “There Will Be Blood” - Can’t say that I’ve seen any of the above-mentioned movies, nor do I have the interest to. WINNER: “Atonement”
PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA
Cate Blanchett - “Elizabeth: The Golden Age”, Julie Christie - “Away From Her”,
Jodie Foster - “The Brave One”, Angelina Jolie - “A Mighty Heart”, Keira Knightley - “Atonement” - An interesting group of nominees : I’ve always loved Cate Blanchett’s performance but I’ve yet to see her in the sequel to Elizabeth. Jodie Foster.. how can you not love her. Keira bores me in all the movies she’s in. And the day Angelina Jolie wins a Golden Globe, will be the day Madonna wins an Oscar. WINNER: Julie Christie - “Away From Her”
PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA
George Clooney - “Michael Clayton”, Daniel Day-Lewis - “There Will Be Blood”, James McAvoy - “Atonement”, Viggo Mortensen - “Eastern Promises”, Denzel Washington - “American Gangster” - Meh. If you’ve seen Clooney and Washington act, you’ve seen all of their movies. Kinda like Pacino or DeNiro or Jim Carrey. WINNER: Daniel Day-Lewis - “There Will Be Blood”
MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSICAL
“Across The Universe”, “Charlie Wilson’s War”, “Hairspray”, “Juno”, “Sweeney Todd : The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” - I would seriously gouge someone’s eye out if the overrated Hairspray won this category. Looking forward to watching Juno - cause the buzz it’s created has been nothing but huge. And the trailer for Sweeney Todd looks aaaawesome! WINNER: “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”
FILM CATEGORIES

Amy Adams - “Enchanted”, Nikki Blonsky - “Hairspray”, Helena Bonham Carter - “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”, Marion Cotillard - “La Vie En Rose”, Ellen Page - “Juno” - I personally think the nominees in this category overshadows the nominees in its counterpart in the drama category. WINNER: Marion Cotillard - “La Vie en rose” - I am so overjoyed over her win, because she was really spectacular in her role. So glad I caught this movie last June!
PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSICAL
Johnny Depp - “Sweeney Todd : The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”, Ryan Gosling - “Lars And The Real Girl”, Tom Hanks - “Charlie Wilson’s War” , Philip Seymour Hoffman - “The Savages”, John C. Reilly - “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” - I’m kind of surprised that Tom Hanks is nominated in this category.. perhaps I might make an effort to watch Charlie Wilson’s War. I thought Casey Affleck was going to win this given how much spotlight has been focused on him lately. - WINNER: Javier Bardem - “No Country For Old Men”
DIRECTOR - MOTION PICTURE
Tim Burton - “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”, Ethan Coen & Joel Coen - “No Country For Old Men”, Julian Schnabel - “The Diving Bell and The Butterfly”, Ridley Scott - “American Gangster”, Joe Wright - “Atonement” - Kinda surprised Tim Burton was nominated by this.
